In this video from PSFK CONFERENCE NYC, artist Steve Powers takes us through his recent public and private art projects. He explains love-letters to the neighborhoods he painted on the sides of buildings in Brooklyn. He also talks about his one-a-day art “Daily Metaltation” pieces that he paints on 8×10 pieces of metal. When you’re presented with any day you’re presented with a blank slate he says and as an artist its his job to find some form and boundaries and distill his experiences of the day onto that canvas.

Words told to an 8 year old girl by her father to always remind her that each day is another opportunity to create anew. Being Zyn chronicles the adventures of this quirky, creative little girl named Zyn as she discovers the brilliant colors of life.

Being Zyn is an upcoming children book series written by Fountain Partner Zachary Crawford and Illustrated by Stacey Figueiredo. The book deals with themes of creativity, fostering individuality and self-love and respect.

Anthony Tyrone Howard // Creative Director

Anthony is an ADDY award winning interactive developer who’s been designing and directing online experiences for 15 years. As Art Director of Cornell Universitie’s Department of Distance Learning (eCornell) he spearheaded projects that have set precedents for online education. Later in his career, Anthony moved on to work for clients such as the FDA, Proctor & Gamble, Comcast, Puma and Temple University.

Anthony established The Fountain Insight Studio seeking to forge a new path for advertising and design in the constantly changing digital ecosystem.

The Fountain Magazine was founded by Anthony and his long time collaborator Zachary Crawford. The magazine is an extension of the The Fountain Insight Studio and it’s unique aesthetic. Available quarterly on print and digital versions, The Fountain Magazine provides engaging content and creative execution.

Using his roots in online education and his background in advertising and design, Anthony co-established the WellSpring Project. The goal of the project is to provide a sustainable educational model for introducing middle and high school age students to all aspects of the creation and implementation of digital media.

Everett Saunders // Co-Director of Soundscapes

A Philadelphia native, Everett Saunders of Ngozi Flux is a producer, composer, songwriter, and performer.

His work spans across many genres and forms, from composition for dance to songwriting and production.

He’s composed for Montage Dance Company, LOVE| FORTÉ A COLLECTIVE, and has premiered original scores at Dance Theatre Workshop (EGO 2010), and Dance New Amsterdam’s WIP Series, Raw Material (2009-2011) and Danspace Parallels(2012).

Everett has also mixed, mastered, and arranged the score Cool Baby Cool (2009) for internationally acclaimed dance company Urban Bush Women.

Everett’s songwriting and performing career has been no less extensive.

His earlier work can be seen as co-‐founder of the Philadelphia based collective Dot.|Mental,creators of The P‐Robe Syndrome‐ a musical tribute to renowned musician, athlete, and actor Paul Robeson.

As a performer he’s shared the stage with legendary lyricists The Last Poets and recording artist Res. A Logic Pro 9/Logic Express Certified Instructor, Everett has specific knowledge and practice in audio post-‐production and multi track board operation. He has recently completed the spring release of their debut album entitled “Thee Ugly” (available on iTunes and Bandcamp), featuring the singles Inside You and Forward Maavin.

Everett’s composition work continues to flourish as a collaborator in a project combining Audio, Visual, Dance, and Culinary Arts entitled “To Co‐Exist”.

A musicologist, collecting vinyl and digital sound with great ferocity, his love of sound has inspired a diverse palette of favorites ranging from MC Pharoah Monch, Jazz saxophonist Pharoah Sanders to composers Hans Zimmer and Ennio Morricone.

Everett looks forward expanding that palette and shifting the paradigm of sound and composition.

His latest project, PHSH TANK, has been running continuously every last Saturday of the month at Fluid Nightclub in South Philadelphia. Working with local and international artists, PHSH is curating the future of art exhibitions. As a Soundscape Director, Matthew is helping us forge new territory in the realm of environmental marketing and sensory driven art executions.

Zachary Crawford has been writing since the early 1980′s. After performing spoken word for a few year Zachary publishes
his first work in 1999, Taming of a Wild Heart. He is currently working of on a children book series entitled Being Zyn, a mens magazine MICHEAL and comic strip called The New Adventures of Family.

The Philly Hip-Hop Legacy Project

Philadelphia is known for good music. Musicians, DJs, Singers, Rappers, and Executives abound in the city. The Philadelphia Hip-Hop Legacy Project was created so that young aspiring artists and executives will know the rich tradition and musical history of Philadelphia and it’s global influence on Hip-Hop as they create their own pathways to success. The spring 2012 phase of the project has included interviews with the Legendary Lady B, Perry P, Chris Schwartz, Yvette Money, and Malika Love. Students from across the city participated in a Philly Hip-Hop Bootcamp before creating their own original music to reflect the 80s hip hop scene. They also created the beginning of an extensive Philly Hip-Hop Timeline. This project is based on the past, present, and future of Hip Hop in Philadelphia.
